Pocket Money

Did you get money as a kid.... I know I did, but I cant for the life of me
remember how often.  I don't think it was every week.

I don't even remember exactly how much, but it was either thruppence
or sixpence.
I usually helped with dishes, make my bed.. I had to clean the surroundings etc
to earn my pocket money.
With my money, I would buy The Beano or Diana

and also The Bunty

and maybe an ice lolly

or some sweets

Of course, not as many as are in this picture. haha

I remember when I lived in Kelburn, and would be walking to my Primary School
( Clune Park was the name )  there was a wee store.. just a little convenience store,
and at the time buying an oxo cube to sook on was the " in " thing... and yes
I did it to.  Thinking back, I think YUCK... but at the time, I loved it.
So I also used to buy that with some of my pocket money.. :)
My growing up years, although simple... were also fairly happy.
I just wish my memory was better...

The Book of Me... Written by You... Prompt 26

This week's prompt is - Technology
  • What technology changes did your ancestors see?
  • What technology changes have you seen?
  • Did your family own one of those early changes? - such as television
  • Do you like or dislike technology?
  • What do you think has been the best technological change in your lifetime and historically?
Well, it would depend what ancestor we were talking about, but for some, seeing the first airplane would have been something they could probably never imagine... can you imagine.. this big heavy plane, actually in the air like a bird.  The modes of travel would have changed... from horse and buggy to trains and cars...  Also, they would have seen electricity. They would have had gas lamps, gone from that to electricity lighting our homes.
Having a TV would have been so different for them... and radio's too., and not to mention
the first telephone.

TV's started out just black and white... I remember having one in our house.
They looked like a big box on the floor, with a screen of course. :)
I can remember having one... I also remember my dad being at the club and coming home
talking about a colour TV that they just got there.  Oh, he was so excited... to be able to
watch it in actual colour...

Seeing a colour television ( and owning some ) is also some of the changes I have seen.

I remember when I was young, I had my own record player... it looked similar to this
I would play my LP's
I also played my single's on there too.
I remember my first single... my dad bought it for me..
it was called Little Arrow's and sung by Leapy Lee

I also remember having 8 tracks
From that, we went to cassette tapes
and then CD's

My family owned a TV, and one of those old fashioned floor record players.. it was also
a radio..

Do I like / dislike technology... I love it, although, I do feel It can be used for good or bad.
I mean, look what we have nowadays... there's computers, and tablets etc.
We can facetime with others, and actually see them and talk to them.
We love to facetime with our son and his family.... they live in the United States, and get to see them and talk to them... its pretty awesome.
My son at Christmas did facetime with us, and we could see them all open up their
pressies from us... I loved it. We could see how big the children are getting, see
the babies crawl around, we love it.

I was talking with my husband about this, and it makes us wonder what's next?
I mean... we can put a man on the moon, something even my grandparent's couldn't
imagine...
My children when they were little, loved a show called The Jetsons... there were flying cars
etc on this cartoon... I think, its quite possible that could happen.
Technology is moving at such a fast pace... I'm just glad I'm still here to see some of it.....

The Book of Me.... Written by You... Prompt 25

This week's prompt is - Love (I love you!)

  • Love comes in varying shapes and sizes
    • I love you
    • I love ice cream
    • I love the smell of rain, Spring, toast
    • I love my (insert your family member, pet etc)
  • There is no right or wrong way to love....or is there?
  • Define what love means to you.

Love does come in various ways... and I think / feel its different for everyone.
That's what makes life interesting.
I think there is no right or wrong way to love... we all see love differently.

Some shapes and sizes of Love...
I  LOVE  rain....
I love when it falls gently, or when its pouring down, I especially love to go walking
in the rain. I don't care about getting soaking wet... if I didn't think someone would look at me like I'm crazy, I would jump in puddles, and run with my arms outstretched , loving it... breathing it, enjoying it.... ( maybe I need to care less what anyone thinks )

I LOVE Autumn....

What\s not to love about Fall... the weather is just right.. warm days and cool evenings.
The colours are spectacular... vibrant red, gold, orange.
Crunchy leaves... awesome

I LOVE Snow...

It turns all the world into a wonderland.... its beautiful...

I  also LOVE Family, Stars, long walks, chocolate, great talks, good poetry, music and the list could
go on...

What does LOVE mean to me ?
Well there's the love we have for family... different than the love we have for friends.
Love is unconditional...
There is a book out that is called the 5 Love Languages

1.. Words of Affirmation
2.. Acts of Service
3.. Receiving Gifts
4.. Quality Time
5.. Physical Touch

My love Language was number 5, then number 1 when I took the quiz for this.

I tend to love with my whole heart....
You know, I didn't think it would be difficult for me to talk about love, but honestly
I am having a hard time putting into words what I want to say...
Sometimes I think I'm in love with " love "... does that make sense ?

I think we all need to feel loved by someone...
The deep, love we feel for a spouse / boyfriend... the all encompassing love that a parent
has for their child, the love we feel for a friend.... the love we feel for a parent.

Love is what makes your heart beat so fast, that you think others can hear it...

Love can be wonderful, but love can also hurt.

As John Lennon says... it matters not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love.....it matters only that you love

For me , someone just brushing my hair would make me feel loved... its the little things..
I have a lot of people in my life that " I Love "  I'm Thankful for that

Memories

Looking back on my life ( so far ) its great to have memories... memories are what
make us happy, sad.. nostalgic at times... they can also show me, just how far I've come, and just where I want to go.
I was born in Dundee... lived in Greenock for a couple of years, and then grew up in Port Glasgow.
My first love was there... I was young, but... I remember a lot of those times as if it was yesterday.
Even now, I can remember how I felt.
If my grandchildren ever read this Blog... maybe they would find it weird to ever think
of their Grams as having been young enough to be in love way back when..... I wont say more.. :)

When I was 17, I started going to a church that my parents didn't agree with..that time
in my life was hard.. difficult.  My stepmum told my dad that either I left, or she was going to..
I still don't understand the reasoning, but I left.
I stayed with my friend Jean, who lived on the same street as me.  I remember my dad walking by one day.. he stopped and just stared... I could feel he wanted to talk to me, but I was young and stupid.. I just walked into my friend's house.  I also stayed at my friend Helen's house... I
still remember her address.. 70 North Road..
Her mum was always so good to me, I am forever appreciative for being able to stay at both of my friend's homes..
When I turned 18, I left Scotland for England, to a place called Edgeware.
I was a Nanny there.
Some more of my happiest memories were there.
My friend Rosina also went, and also Lisa and Agnes.  I always felt taken care of there..
Lisa and Agnes were wonderful.
Rosina and I , I remember got lost in a not so nice part of London... when we told Agnes, she
explained why we should never go there again... thank goodness everything turned
out okay.  hehe    There was a great young adult group there, so we went to many
activities.   I loved it there... that is also where I fell in love a second time, but didn't
say to anyone.. you know.. young love.
I was so shy.. I also wont say more...
Life carried on, and after 2 years of living in England, I left for Canada, also as a Nanny.
It was in January 1976.. I was scared, young, but excited to see what life had to offer me here.
I could say, the rest is history... which of course it is  :)  but I want to to fill in all
the history parts another day...

The Book of Me... Written by You.... Prompt 24

This week's prompt (Week 24) is - Favourite Colour

Do you have a favourite colour? and if so why?
Do you like vibrant colours or darker colours?
Do you associate anyone with a particular colour? If so who and why ?
Does your favourite colour reflect your personality?

Yes, I do have a favourite colour... actually, I have two favourite colours.... I don't have any idea why they are my favourites... just that I am drawn to them.
The colours that I love are BLUE and PURPLE.....
When I wear certain shades of blue, it tends to make my eyes pop, which in turn,
makes me feel good.  :)
The same goes with purple.... I think with my blue eyes and dark hair, I just tend to love
that colour on me.
A funny story.... quite a few years ago I had mentioned to my husband how much
I loved the colour purple... anyway, Christmas was coming.. and on Christmas day, every
single piece of clothing that he bought me was purple.... everything !!
There was sweat pants and top, a jacket, jeans... I had to tell him that even though I love
that colour, I do like to have a change and wear other colours also... hehe
Here is one of the outfits he got me...
                                                  My Mum and I

I'm not sure right now if I associate a certain colour with anyone... I cant think of anyone.

Do my favourite colours reflect my personality?
Well I looked up on the internet, to see what the colours mean, and this is what it says

BLUE – You want a serene world and a calm life and you want your affairs to be orderly and neat. An introvert, you are deliberate, introspective, but perhaps not too intellectual. Steady and a hard worker, you will probably be successful and make a lot of money.

I think most of this sounds like me.. although I would love it if I made a lot of money.
I do think of myself as an introvert.. and really..all I want is a calm life, but that could
be said of most people, I would imagine.

This is what it says about Purple

PURPLE – Two types of people like purple. The first is sensitive, with deep insight, temperamental and creative with meaningful things to do and passionate devotion to them. The second type admires artists, mystics and unique people. This type feels there should be gentility, courtesy and affection everywhere, and no war, disease or poverty.

I am definitely a mix of both types of purple.
I am probably tooooo sensitive... to a fault, actually

I also believe in gentility and affection... so, I would have to say yes, in some ways these
colours reflect my personality...

The Book of Me..... Written by You... Prompt 23

This week's prompt is - Memory Board

- How do you see the point of a memory board
- Why keep one?
 - Do you keep one? Or will you?

This could be a cork board in your office, kitchen or regular space? If you do what do you keep on it? and why?

Oh dear... another hard one.. actually I kind of don't understand this one...
I guess, thinking about this.... a memory board would be things from my life, or an
ancestors life that I would keep on this board.
It could even be something like honoring an ancestor... maybe even every month, you could
put someone new on there.... now there's an idea.
If I had one, I think I would like to put my Uncle George ( my Dad's brother )

He was a kind, quiet and gentle man
On the board with him, I would have my Aunt Cathy, and each one of his children ( my cousins )
I think I would even have their spouses and his grandchildren.
I would also have a picture of his dog.... there wasn't a day went by, that
my Uncle George didn't go for a walk with his dog.. and I'm not
talking a wee walk... he could walk for miles... he was fit, that is for sure.
I would have to ask my cousin what else would be good to put on the board, that
would represent him.
I think his family alone were his biggest accomplishments... he loved his family
I would try to find out all I could about him, so that I could add to the board, to honour him..
My cousin wrote this, and I would like to add it...

*My dad was a hard working man he loved his football he love the Greenock Jr he never went to any of there away games that I know of but if they played in Greenock he was there and yes he walked miles as he got older is walks go more close to home*

After my Uncle George, I would just go through my tree and choose someone else.
I think I would not just choose ancestors, but also my relatives...I
could learn so much this way about them... get to know them better. I
would also put me on there.
For myself.. I would put a picture of where I was born
Dundee, Scotland

Also of where I lived growing up
I lived in Greenock, Scotland
and then grew up in Port Glasgow
Oops... this is also the cemetery there, but the view is lovely... hehe

I moved to outside of London, England as a Nanny

And then came to Canada as a Nanny also... met my husband here..and we moved from the Eastern
to the Western part of Canada..
I would have to find things to put on this board that would tell about my life..
all the in between parts that I haven't mentioned...
Its exciting to think about doing this .. finding out things about my relatives..my
ancestors...
Why keep one ?  Well... for the reasons I just said... I love to know about my family also.
Do I keep one?   No I don't..
Will I ?  I'm not sure... probably not.
If I was retired and had more time... then maybe.
I think its an awesome idea though.

I do still plan to send the message in a bottle though :)
Not sure when... but it will be done
