Moving to Pleasantside...

When we lived In Kelburn, we lived beside
the River Clyde..here is a picture of it here.
The 2 pictures are from the site PG4U
and I had permission to use them.
At first when we moved here, My step mum's sister
Cathy and her husband Donald and their daughter Margaret
also lived there. My brother Andrew also came and
lived with us, but my sister Patricia stayed with
my Aunt and Uncle ( Cathy and George Newman )
They had lost a daughter and were already close to Tricia.
And I dont think she would have understood getting
taken from them, to come and live with us.
After awhile we moved to Pleasantside Avenue

There were three Avenues Sunnyside,
Pleasantside and Brightside... in the picture
those Avenues are the grey houses on the hill.
When I look at these pictures, it makes me miss
those days. I was fairly happy...we did'nt have much
but we did'nt need much either.
I have just skimmed through my growing up years,
but will come back and add on, as I remember things.
I will probably just write about it on other posts.

My step mum

When I was 7 years old, my Father re-married
He married someone called Bridget Keyes, but
she was called Bridie...we moved to where
she lived in Port Glasgow... we lived at
18 Kelburn Terrace. I called her Mum, and actually
I loved her.... even at that time I could'nt remember
much of my real mum.
She was good to me...although not as nice to my
brother Andrew...
She always had some kind of a cough also...I dont
know if it was a nervous one.
When my father married her, I inherited new cousins.
The ones I remember were Jean, Thomas, Brian
and the one I remember the most is Margaret !
I loved Margaret... used to take her to Gourock
and buy her treats, and get our picture taken
in those photo booths that were by the water.
Ahhhhhh... memories!!

My beginning...

I was born in December 1955 to

Patricia O'Brien McCulloch and

Archibald McLeod Newman

I was born in Dundee, Scotland... I am the

oldest child, and have a younger brother and sister.

I was named after my maternal grandmother

Norah O'Brien and my paternal step grandmother

who's maiden name was Greves. I feel honoured

to be named after these women.

By the time I was 5 years old, my parents were

divorced, and my father had custody of us 3

children. He moved us from Dundee to Greenock,

where my brother and sister stayed with my Aunt

and Uncle ( my dad's brother )..I stayed with

my father at my grandparents.

I only saw my other grandparents , maybe one
time after this...which for me is sad... I saw my
mother a few times, but even that dwindled out..
I did see her again when I was in my 30's, when I
went looking for her. I will talk about that at a later time.
I want to really think about what to put in this blog...I did'nt
put in the reason for my parents divorce.. I dont know if I should
maybe I will at a later date....
